The Chapman Family Center: Creating Support that Lasts a Lifetime. Giving birth is one of the most profound and transformational experiences in a woman's life.

“My husband has said on multiple occasions how he would not have made it through without the support, confidence and technical explanations our doula provided us."

Class Description

"In my classes, I emphasize that pregnancy and childbirth are normal life experiences. A thorough explanation of labor is discussed including the physiological processes and what one can expect physically and emotionally in order to take an active role in giving birth. Participants are prepared with an understanding and use of breathing techniques, relaxation, visualization, massage pushing techniques and positions which enhance their progress in labor. Additional material covered includes the role of the birth partner, doulas (birth and postpartum), the birth plan and knowledge of every possible medical procedure, including pain management, along with the couples' right to participate in all decisions made about them.

"

"Through education and practice of many techniques, a great deal of fear about the birthing process can be alleviated and a strong sense of confidense estableished."

"Information is also included concerning the immediate care of mom and baby following the birth and the physical and emotional changes occurring in the first few weeks of homecoming. A video - "The Amazing Talents of the Newborn" is shown which beautifully describes how aware the newborn is in the first two weeks of life and the many cues the baby gives to let his/her parents know of its needs."
